There are many FTP clients available. Please use any one you are comfortable with. We have provided instructions for those of you who have never used an FTP client before. |
These instructions assume a level of computer savvy. If there is something that confuses you, we'd love any feedback you desire to provide. Please!!! HINT You might want to print this page before you start. |
1. Create a directory directly under your root called FTP to download the software. |
2. To get the FTP client go to www.download.com and Click on PowerSearch. or just use the link below to go to DaveCentral.com and get it. |
Enter WSFTP as the search string in DESCRIPTION. |
You may get more than one hit. The FTP client to download is WS_FTP LE 4.6. Be sure to select the one that is best for your computer. i.e 16 bit vs 32 bit |
3. Unzip the package in the FTP directory you just created. |
4. To use the ftp program the following needs to be done: |
Find the .exe file in the FTP directory where you just unzipped the FTP client and double click on it. |
a) It will come up in a Session Profile window. Under profile name select "New". |
b) Enter hicohost for the profile name (actually it's not critical what you call it as long you know (and remember) what it is. You'll have to select this profile to login next time.) |
c) For the Host Name enter "www.hicohost.com". |
d) For Host Type select "Automatic detect" from the scroll list. (should be the default) |
e) For the User ID enter your assigned user id. |
f) Password should be left blank for now. |
g) Account should be left blank. |
h) Initial Directories for Remote Host and Local PC can be left blank. |
i) Comment can be used to describe the profile. It's not necessary to fill it in. |
j) Leave the boxes "Anonymous Login", "Save Password" and "Auto Save Config" unchecked. |
k) Select Save to save the profile. |
5. To logon to hicohost, select the hicohost profile (or whatever you named the profile), enter your password and select OK. You should now be logged onto the server and will have a window on the left that is the default directory on your local PC. The directory on the right is your default directory on the server. |
6. To copy a file to the server, select the file on the left (highlight it) click on the arrow pointing to the server directory and the file will be transferred to the server. |
7. To copy from the server to the PC do just the opposite. |
8. To delete a file, select the file and then select delete. |
9. To rename a file select the file and select rename. Fill in the info for the new name and select "OK". |
10. That should just about do it. It's pretty intuitive to use. |
